Classic Johnny Depp Horror Film Receives Exciting Upgrade This Fall

New Line Cinema

Fans, it’s time to never sleep again in glorious 4K fashion. In celebration of A Nightmare on Elm Street’s 40th anniversary this November, the classic ‘80s horror flick is receiving a serious upgrade in the form of a limited-edition SteelBook, which is loaded with special features. The collectors’ edition 4K Ultra HD + Digital Steelbook will include both the theatrical and the uncut versions of the seminal 1984 film directed by the late Wes Craven.

Among the special features, viewers will find the “Ready Freddy Focus Points.” The interactive feature will allow fans to jump from the movie to BTS “video highlights,” which allow Freddy followers to view alternate takes and discover filmmaking secrets while enjoying the flick. Plus, an undisclosed number of alternate endings are included in the new limited-edition collectible.

Two commentaries are also included with the new A Nightmare on Elm Street SteelBook. The first features the film’s heavy hitters: writer/director Wes Craven, actress Heather Langenkamp and her on-screen father, the legendary John Saxon, plus cinematographer Jacques Haitkin. The second commentary also includes the visionary Craven and Scream Queen Langenkamp, but this time they are flanked by co-star Ronee Blakely, plus producers Bob Shaye and Sara Risher.

The A Nightmare on Elm Street SteelBook also includes a trio of featurettes: Never Sleep Again: The Making of a Nightmare on Elm Street, which is not to be confused with the in-depth four-hour documentary, Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy (2010). The featurettes The House That Freddy Built: The Legacy of New Line Horror and Night Terrors: The Origins of Wes Craven’s Nightmares are also included.
